Actually it is more like the paper chase era than the political era, the political era started when uhm... in Europe it was Von Bismark and Count Cammilo who started real politics.
But I do agree to some extent (jokingly), for example you can't use other symbols to mark the chosen political party other than the "x" why not the "V" for Vendetta? =P
